original design sketch from the mother
Mother of the birthday child drew a rough sketch, wanting something like the drawing above with the Lollapalooza font and "swirly twirly elements" on t-shirts for the birthday party
Lollapalooza logo as reference in creating the five-a-palooza design
The Lollapalooza music festival logo is similar to the Lolapeluza font designed by RodrigoTypo and the Zolla font by FG Studios
Working in Adobe Illustrator and using primarily the Lolapeluza font while using a few letters from Zolla (including the "ooz" ligature), and modifying the "p" and "Fi" to create my own ligature, and adding a tail to an "a" for balance, I created a five-a-palooza logo reminiscent of the original sketch.
For the letter 5, I searched for retro and groovy fonts and decided on an Adobe Font, New Kansas.
Finally, I drew flourishes based on the original sketch and varied the line thickness.

In addition to a one color version, I created a two-color version based on the teal and orange colors used in the Lollapalooza logo. I added the designs to CustomInk.com to create t-shirt mockups for review.

Based on the stacked Lollapalooza logo, I also wanted to create a text only five-a-palooza design for a simpler design option. I modified the F and the v to create a custom ligature for "Fiv". The "palooza" was made to appear exactly like it appears in the Lollapalooza stacked font. I created a single color and two color version using the teal and orange from the original Lollapalooza logo. I created sticker and t-shirt mockups for review.

Client wanted to see an alternate version of the design using the new stacked logo design. To allow room for the stacked logo design, I removed the squiggles above the 5 and moved 5 to the top of the design. I also altered the swirls and loops from the original version. I created two alternate designs, one version using the original number 5, New Kansas font, and another version using the Adobe Font, Zeplin Variable. I think the Zeplin Variable number 5 works better with the stacked text logo.
Currently waiting to hear back from the client on how to proceed.
